Picturing your world with Pixie
Today’s Tuesday Push victim is Pixie, the photosharing site. Pixie is a photo site meets social network where, just like Facebook you can add people as friends. And just like Facebook, you can comment on photos. Your photos are talking pieces.
Pix.ie’s biggest competitor is Flickr, but Pixie wins on the deft touches. For example, with Pixie you can easily socially share your favourite photos across different bookmarking services like Del.icio.us, Reddit and Digg right inside the site. It’s nice to access sharing services right on the page. Very handy. I also like the way that members just a degree of separation from you are featured in the ”Friends of Friends” panel. It’s easy to find a surprise friend in that bank of contacts. A very natural way of describing the social spanning tree of friendships.
What I love about Pixie is its engaging user interface. You never feel isolated from your photos when they sit in Pixie as they don’t sit in a grey old theme. The site uses nice green accenting, giving a funky, young look and feel. Pix.ie doesn’t feel a site my grandmother would use and I kind of like that.
Even hovering over an album makes a dynamic carousel pop-up. Instant contextual feedback. Nice user interface touches.
Another really nice development is the way Pixie is partnering with the Guinness Storehouse in a new photo competition. Partnerships like this are great news for both parties and help draw attention to their patches. Prizes of digital photo frames and a grand is good news for the lucky entrants too. The future looks very green and promising for Pixie.
Pix.ie is the third Irish company to be covered in the Tuesday Push, a movement to expose product offerings of indigenous startups to a wider audience outside the clued-in tech set. Previous companies profiled include project tracking company, 1time and online lifestyle backup service, Put Place.

Agreed. I love Pix.ie (www.pix.ie/salubri). I am however compiling a short list of “quibbles” or little things I’d like to see added (as they are still in beta I know we can’t expect it to be the finished item).
My biggest complaint is that while I can Digg, Reddit, Stumble (etc etc) cool photos that I find – there’s no way for me to bookmark photos I like within Pix.ie (so people can immediately see my favourites).
Blog post coming soon with some suggestions but lots of Kudos to this Irish offering that definitely competes (if not in numbers at least in quality) with the global big ones!
@Lexia Cheers for the 2nd post in as many weeks about Pixie – yay!
@Salubri I’ve been meaning to comment on your Pixie avatar – brilliant! I did a double take when I first noticed it. We have actually been collecting your favourites all along
Each time you vote, you are marking something as a favorite. We will soon be allowing you to see what photos you voted for, your ultimate favorites being photos that you rated 5/5! I’ll be really interested in your feedback – make sure you let us know when you post it!
