The Irish Web Awards are go, get nominating!

This week has been an exceedingly busy week for the inaugural Irish Web Awards. First came the announcement of their staging on October 11th at the Royal Radisson SAS in Dublin and second, came the opening of nominations.

It seems that it’s the season of awards show nominations, with the Net Visionary noms open too. And this raises a couple of interesting things to note about how the Irish Web Awards plans to differ from other technology awards.

  • You do not not need to pay for the honour of being shortlisted in a category. True democratisation, right? A one-man operation can just as easily get shortlisted as a large web house.
  • The price of attending the gig is nominal. Just €30 for Chrissakes, the price of a decent lunch.
  • In the interests of transparency, the Irish Web Awards team have published a scorecard on how entries are judged. Big plus.
  • Want more transparency? Here’s some info on the costs behind the show. I don’t think I’ve * ever * seen this from an awards show, have you? If Pat Phelan is a telecoms disruptor, then this move by the Irish Web Awards marks them as a serious technology awards show disruptor. Even with the first show to come, they are setting the bar above the competition.
