80’s playlisting via throwback soundtracks
Roxy Music ‘More Than This’
200 Cigarettes is cheesy love letter of a movie, but I do like it. 200 Cigarettes harkens back to Adventures in Babysitting or doing a switcheroo to daytime, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Anyway, jumping to the point of this post, the 200 Cigarettes soundtrack is 80’s-tastic. Spent some time listening to tracks off it over the weekend. You could do much worse than set up a playlist of the tracks off it.
- Nick Lowe ’Cruel To Be Kind’
- Blondie ‘In The Flesh’
- The Cars ‘Just What I Needed’
- Harvey Danger ‘Save It For Later’
- The Go-Go’s ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’
- Bow Wow Wow ‘I Want Candy’
- Ramones ‘I Don’t Care’
- Girls Against Boys ‘Boogie Wonderland’
- Kool & The Gang ‘Ladies Night’
- Joe Jackson ‘It’s Different For Girls’
- B-Movie ‘Nowhere Girl’
- Roxy Music ‘More Than This’
- Dire Straits ‘Romeo And Juliet’
- The Party’s cover of ‘Peace, Love And Understanding’ (Dig out the Elvis Costello original instead)
And then there’s the king of 80’s-esque soundtracks as well as one of my all-time favourite movies, Gross Pointe Blank.
The English Beat ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’
I watched GPB so many time when I was younger, I knew the script by heart. Popcorn! Most of the music is from the 80’s and turned out to be half the fun.
- Violent Femmes ‘Blister in the Sun’
- The Clash ‘Rudie Can’t Fail’
- The English Beat ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’
- Bowie & Queen ‘Under Pressure ‘
- Jimmy Cliff ‘I Can See Clearly Now’
- Guns N’Roses ‘Live & Let Die’
- Faith No More ‘We Care a Lot’
- Toots and the Maytals ‘Pressure Drop’
- The Jam ‘Absolute Beginners’
- The Clash ‘Armagideon Time’
- Los Fabulosos Cadillacs ‘El Matador’
- Pete Townshend ‘Let My Love Open the Door’
Add a heavy dollop of Elvis Costello, New Order, Simple Minds and The Cure to these lot for a grandaddy of a 80’s playlist. Got any cool 80’s throwback soundtracks to share?
I have been trying for ages to find 200 Cigarettes on Dvd, but nowwhere has it, except on U.S format. Sad face! Do you have the movie on Dvd, if so where did you get it?!
It’s only available in Region 1 AFAIK. I haven’t been able to find it in Region 2. Sorry!
