- Be Flexible: WAP, Social Media, Green Tech – these are all different fora for you to showcase your skills. Don’t be afraid to stand up and opine. You are only as good as your last tweet.
- Know the Next Trend: Linked to 1, so Nuclear Energy comes after Green Tech? Be sure to be on the button with trends. Get there before everyone else. Make us understand why * you * are an expert.
- Bombast is your friend: The Meek will never inherit the earth. Loudmouthing is where it’s at. Also helps to shout down noisy Know-it-alls.
- Get around: It’s all about connecting conversations or conversationing connections. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Tweetup in Drogheda or a Mommy Blogger meet in Mayo. They want to hear you speak.
- Experience is for losers: People who build apps don’t get time to build a big social presence.
- Write posts with numbered steps: Elementary, my dear Watson.
- Don’t be afraid of revisionism: We miss the boat now and then. Timestamps are just numbers.
- Be interested: People like to know you’re a listener too. It builds cred that you are evoking social trends by being open. Don’t be afraid to shout that you’re a beginner and only trying to understand.
- Followers mean paydirt: Don’t forget to give new Twitter followers - yes, two since last year – the obligatory, “Hey new followers, didn’t have time to add you. Say something or I’ll ignore”. Keep them happy.
